I'm not sure if this doesnt work for machines other then Dell, but if you try creating keyboard shortcut and adding this command and then press whatever key for volume-up/down/mute you do have .. this should work.
I never go with the full implementation mentioned on link in my post. but just do what three steps i mentioned . and it gets me going :)
